The lovely magazine The Simple Things asked if I would write a “My City: Rome” feature for their April 2023 issue: check it out below for some Eternal City musings and fun recommendations!
After More Than Fire (which you can read by clicking straight on the button above!), I’d love to share with you two stories that tell a story close to my heart: in May 2017, the literary magazine 34thParallel did me the very great honor of publishing my story about a young girl in Italy worried about the passage of time… Leore Worried About Time was published in the 44th edition of the magazine. Then, exactly two years later, 34thParallel asked me if I might have a follow-up piece, perhaps from a different place, as Leore is growing up. It just so happened that I did, so my second piece with them, The Water’s Edge, was published, this time with a global focus (and Leore is a little fiercer). I’m including both pieces below, and even though the second isn’t Italy-based, it certainly is about what we consider the “capital of the world” (Caput Mundi), and these pieces are so interwined I couldn’t but keep them together!
All roads lead to Rome... If you're looking for recommendations, pictures, stories, and articles revolving around the Eternal City, you've come to the right place!
The below button will send you zooming over to my city blog, Which Way to Rome®, where you can find a compendium of information from articles, pictures, and stories, to advice on traveling from Rome and favorite tours and places to go. Though I eventually managed WWTR on my own and developed all content, the older information contained within comes from a variety of people, from the bloggers before me (when the blog was Young in Rome) to contributing writers. Every article specifies its author, unless the author did not sign themselves. If you're here to find a variety of useful advice and information on Rome, I'd advise you to go to the blog's homepage and explore from there:
If what you're looking for is a collection of my work from the site, then please check out my author archives for a mix of personal reflections as well as all things Roma:
What Emperor Hadrian Lost: a super cool audio tour through Ancient Rome!
This one, a collaboration with two friends (hi, Lauren and Henry!) and VoiceMap, was not only really fun to write and make, but the outcome is a fun, informative audio tour that takes you back in time, strolling through Ancient Rome and listening to Antinous the Tour Ghost regale you with tales of how the mighty Emperor Hadrian influenced this immortal city.
